Is the lotus motif painted or printed?
Hand-painted with a brush before the glaze firing, which is why no two cups are identical. Run a finger across it — you feel glaze, not ink. Decal-printed ceramics fade in the dishwasher; underglaze cobalt does not.
Can I pour boiling water straight in?
Yes. The body is fired to 1300°C and handles boiling water without thermal shock. What it does not like is an extreme swing — do not take it from the freezer to boiling water. Warming the cup with a splash of hot water first is a two-second habit that noticeably improves aroma.
What size is it, and what is it for?
