Vases

A vase should disappear into the room and still change it. Every Purekiln vase is thrown by hand in Dehua, Fujian — the town that has been firing Blanc de Chine porcelain since the Ming dynasty. The clay there is unusually low in iron, which is why the finished body reads warm ivory rather than the cold blue-white of factory ceramic.

What you are buying

Suet-white porcelain fired to 1300°C, so the wall is vitrified all the way through — it will not absorb water, stain from flower stems, or craze along the rim. Bases are hand-sanded flat and left unglazed, the way a potter finishes a piece for their own shelf. Lead-free and cadmium-free throughout.

How to choose

Working with a single stem, a branch, or nothing at all? The bud vases are for one flower and a lot of quiet — a windowsill, a nightstand, the corner of a desk. The 11″ vase is the one that anchors a console or a dining table, and it holds dried pampas and eucalyptus just as well as fresh peonies. If you are styling a shelf, odd numbers and mixed heights almost always beat a matched pair.
