Tea ware is where Dehua porcelain earns its reputation. The body is thin enough to let light through at the rim, yet vitrified enough to take boiling water straight from the kettle without a whisper of thermal shock.
Hand-painted, not decal-printed
The cobalt lotus motif is applied by brush before the glaze firing, which is why no two cups are identical and why the blue sits under the surface rather than on top of it. Run a finger across it — you will feel glaze, not ink. Decal-printed ceramics fade in the dishwasher; underglaze cobalt does not.
How to use them
Sized for gongfu-style pours and for a single espresso alike — small enough that the tea stays hot from the first sip to the last. Warm the cup with a splash of hot water before pouring; it is a two-second habit that noticeably changes the aroma.
