Purekiln porcelain is fired at 1300°C, which makes it dense, non-porous, and far more durable than most people expect. With a little care, it will serve your home for decades. Here is everything you need to know.
Everyday cleaning
All Purekiln pieces are dishwasher-safe. Place them securely in the top rack with a gentle cycle if you prefer extra caution, though standard cycles are fine. For hand washing, warm water and mild dish soap are all you need; our matte glaze resists staining and rinses clean easily.
What to avoid
- Sudden temperature changes. Like all ceramics, porcelain can crack from thermal shock. Don’t move a piece directly from a freezer to boiling water, or place a hot vase on a cold stone counter.
- Abrasive scrubbers. Steel wool or gritty scouring pads can dull the matte finish. A soft sponge is plenty.
- Microwave (for vases and display ware). Our tea ware is microwave-safe; decorative vases are not intended for food use or microwaves.
Storing your pieces
When stacking bud vases or cups, place a soft cloth between pieces to prevent the matte surfaces from chafing. Store vases upright on a stable shelf, away from edges where they might be knocked.
If a piece chips
Small chips are a natural part of a ceramic’s life story — many collectors consider them character. For display pieces, a fine grit (1000+) can gently smooth the edge. Functional pieces with significant chips should be retired from food use.
